Most likely causes

  1. Camshaft position sensor signal erratic/out of range — The ECM flags the cam signal as out of range or inconsistent with expected engine operation. Generic definition for cam circuit range/performance applies.1
  2. Wiring/connector issues to the camshaft position sensor — Intermittent or high-resistance connections can cause range/performance faults on the cam circuit. Diagnose by checking signal integrity and correlation with crank sensor data.1
