What it means

Engine control module detects turbocharger boost pressure lower than expected or not detected. On this platform the VGT uses an electric actuator with integrated position sensor and MAP-based load control; no wastegate/vacuum/boost solenoid.12

Most likely causes

  1. VGT electric actuator / position sensor fault or learned travel out of range — Actuator or integrated position sensor malfunction, wiring/connector corrosion, or learned travel exceeded. Platform uses HE300VG VGT with electric actuator + position sensor; no wastegate/vacuum/boost solenoid. Related codes include P226C for position learning limit.13
  2. Boost leak or intake restriction — Post-turbo boost leak, cracked intercooler piping, loose clamps, damaged intercooler, or restricted air filter/intake. MAP-based load control expects boost to match commanded VGT position.2
  3. Exhaust restriction / turbine side blockage — Clogged DPF/SCR, collapsed exhaust, or turbine housing fouling reduces turbine drive and boost. Emissions system includes DOC/DPF and SCR/DEF on this platform.2

How to diagnose

  1. Verify freeze frame and confirm P2262 with no accompanying overboost/underboost codes. Check for related VGT codes P226C, P0045, P0299, P0234.
  2. Inspect intake and boost plumbing for leaks, loose clamps, cracked pipes, damaged intercooler. Pressure-test boost circuit if available.
  3. Inspect air filter and intake restriction; check grid heater operation for intake restriction on cold start. Platform has intake-air grid heater, no glow plugs.
  4. Check exhaust backpressure and DPF/SCR condition; excessive restriction reduces turbine drive. Emissions system includes DOC/DPF and SCR/DEF.
  5. Inspect VGT actuator connector and wiring for corrosion/damage; check actuator power/ground and CAN signals per service info. Turbo is HE300VG VGT with electric actuator + integrated position sensor; no wastegate/vacuum/boost solenoid.
  6. Command VGT actuator through scan tool and observe actual vs desired position; check learned travel limits. P226C indicates position exceeded learning limit.
  7. Test MAP sensor voltage and compare to actual boost with mechanical gauge; verify sensor and reference circuits. Air metering is MAP-based.
  8. Inspect turbocharger for shaft play, oil contamination, and vane movement; look for carbon buildup causing vane sticking.
