What it means

Most likely causes
- Code set by non-7.3 calibration / aftermarket tune or scanner misinterpretation — The generic SAE J2012 definition for P0198 is fuel rail temperature sensor A circuit high. The 7.3L Power Stroke has no fuel rail temperature sensor and no common rail. An aftermarket calibration or generic tool can report P0198 on this platform even though the hardware does not exist.1234
- Wiring/connector issue causing a high-voltage fault on a shared 5 V reference or signal return — A high-voltage reading can be produced by an open or high-resistance signal wire, poor ground, or short to voltage on a sensor circuit that shares reference/return with other engine sensors.
