Most likely causes

  1. Excessive soot loading from incomplete combustion — High soot production forces more frequent DPF regenerations.1
  2. DPF differential-pressure sensor circuit fault affecting regeneration logic — A fault in the DPF differential-pressure sensor circuit can skew soot-load calculations and trigger frequent regenerations.2
  3. DPF efficiency below threshold — Reduced filtration efficiency increases soot passage and regeneration demand.34

How to diagnose

  1. Verify freeze-frame and frequency counter for P2459; confirm code is active on L5P Duramax per platform facts.
  2. Inspect DPF differential-pressure sensor and tubing for leaks, blockage, or electrical faults; compare sensor readings to expected values.
  3. Review recent DPF efficiency codes such as P20EE or P2002 and associated pressure/temperature data. [3,4]
